Hoover Dam & Fremont Street

Another day up bright and early ofr our Comedy Bus Hoover Dam tour. I was so exhausted I had trouble getting up and almost made us late for the bus! We practically ran to the bus loading station but our bus was nowhere to be found. After waiting for awhile this lady came running across the valet/parking lanes yelling "Are you Heather & Kevin?" Seems their bus driver had never been to the PH and didn't know where the buses were supposed to pull in at. Heck at least they did come to our hotel to get us.
Our tour guide was Joanie. And she was awesome! So funny. She cracked me up the whole trip. Has to be the best tour guide in Vegas! I highly recommend Comedy on Deck tours. She picked on us like the whole time. Told us she knew we couldn't be married that long because she could tell from looking that we still liked each other. Lol. Said give it a few more years and that'll change. Haha. Even said we'd have some "good-looking" babies one day. We had one more stop to pick up the rest of our group and then we were off to the Dam. Joanie made the ride there quite entertaining. Not a dull moment on this bus. She actually remembered every persons name the whole rest of the day. And there had to be like 20-25 of us.
Before you cross over the Dam you have to go through a security check point. So Joanie gave us all these funny glasses, lips, and pirate hats to put on. We looked so silly. The security guy came on the bus to search us and busted out laughing. Haha. Once we got to the Dam we divided up into separate groups based on which package we purchased. We opted for the Dam Ultimate VIP tour. Joanie took us on a walk-through over the top of the Dam. (Comedy on Deck is the only tour guide with a fully guided walk-on tour on top of the Dam). It was unbearably hot out out there. Joanie said that on a day like that it would reach 140 degrees on top of the Dam. Dam thats hot!
After quelching our thirst with some water, we headed down down down deep into the Dam. Deep into the Black Canyon for a look at the Nevada Powerhouse. Awesome stuff there. After that we were on our own for awhile to take pictures and sightsee. Apparently Joanie had given us all a specific time to meet back at the bus, but me & Kev being in awe of the Dam must haven't missed that part. We roamed around for far too long on our own. Next thing I see if Joanie running after us yelling "Where have you two been?". We've been looking for you for over an hour. Ooops. Our bad. We promptly apologized and felt like such losers as we made it back on the bus. And lowered ourselves down into our seats in the back. Joanie promptly told a joke about the two of us "practically newlyweds" having to christen the Dam before we left. Lol. If she only knew....
We stopped for a brief photo stop at Lake Mead. Beautiful....I've never ever seen water so blue. Then we made our way back to Boulder City for a made-to-order lunch at the Boulder City hotel. Delicious! The hotel itself is supposed to be haunted (#4 out of USA's most haunted) but we explored it all over and never once saw a single ghost. Took a quick tour of the Boulder Dam museum. Then we all headed back to Vegas. One more quick stop at Ethyls Chocolate factory for a chocolate sample. Me & Kev somehow ended up with ice cream again. :) Joanie kept us all entertained all the way back to Vegas. After dropping us off back at the PH, I told Kevin to tip the woman...a big ole tip too. But alas we didn't have any cash left on us, and she didn't take debit cards. Planned to mail her a tip at a later date...she was totally awesome & deserved it!
After a lil rest from the tour and a quick change of clothes, we made our way back downstairs to the valet. Had the valet hail us a taxi and headed toward old school Vegas (aka Fremont Street). The taxi was a bit pricey but well worth it. Theres no way I'd walk that far. Fremont Street is fascinating to me. All the old casinos and shops. Their buffets are alot cheaper too. So are most of the souvenir shops. We got our puppy Dexter a Las Vegas shirt at Vegas Muttwear. Checked out the Golden Nugget, loved the pool with the shark tank. How cool is that? I'd love to stay there and go down that water slide! We ate at the Paradise Buffet at the Fremont hotel. Quite good. Bought some souvenirs and explored the old Vegas. I wish we'd had spent more time here on our trip as I really liked the atmosphere. After a while we decided to head back to the strip. Tried to hail a Dodge Charger taxi but got stuck with a van. :(
Another pricey taxi ride later and we were at the Venetian. Love love love that hotel. We strolled around and pretended like we were really in Italy. Debated taking a ride in the gondolas but the line was way too long so we opted not to. Now I wish we woulda waited it out.
After parting ways with the dear Venetian we checked out The Mirage and Treasure Island. Both quite nice. We tried to catch the Sirens show at TI but it was so ungodly crowded. All these parents had their kids right up front watching and its basically a show about pirate hooker prostitutes. Lol. Oh well. Then we waited and waited and waited at the Mirage for the cursed volcano to erupt and it never did.
Somehow we ended up at Casino Royale. I don't know if it was their drink specials or their gamblin specials but we spent a great deal of the rest of the evening there.
